World Record - Green power generation from the Three Gorges Hydropower Station

Time:2021-01-08Department:

By 0 o 'clock on January 1, 2021, the Three Gorges Power Station, the world's largest hydropower plant, had produced a total of 111.8 billion KWH of green electricity in the whole year, breaking the previous record of 103.098 billion KHW set by South America's Itaipu Hydropower Station in 2016.

The Three Gorges Power Station is the backbone power point of China's "west-east power supply" and "south-North mutual supply". A total of 34 hydropower generating units with a total capacity of 22.5 million kilowatt hours have been installed.

Based on the GDP of 13.8 yuan generated per kilowatt-hour, 111.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will support China's GDP of 1.54 trillion yuan, providing a strong power guarantee for the national economic recovery.

Compared with coal-fired power generation, the 111.8 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity can replace about 34.39 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide by about 94.02 million tons. It will help China build a clean and low-carbon energy system, strive to achieve the peak of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, and achieve carbon neutral by 2060, which makes a great contribution by the Three Gorges Project.
